Ballistic 101

Ballistic 101

Course modified date: 14 April 2026

From the chemistry of propellant ignition to the physics of bullet impact, this course offers a rigorous, end-to-end treatment of ballistics across all three of its classical domains.
You will explore internal ballistics — how propellants burn, how pressure builds inside a chamber, and how a barrel imparts velocity and spin to a projectile. You will master external ballistics — the aerodynamics of flight, drag, ballistic coefficients, gyroscopic stability, wind drift, and atmospheric corrections, drawing on the empirical methods popularized by Bryan Litz in Applied Ballistics. Finally, you will study terminal ballistics — what happens at the moment of impact, from wound cavity mechanics to armour penetration physics.
Each chapter combines physics, chemistry, and mathematics with concrete worked examples, real-world data tables, and intuitive analogies — making complex concepts approachable without sacrificing technical depth.
Who is this course for? Engineers, physicists, competitive long-range shooters, hunters, military and law enforcement professionals, and anyone who wants to move beyond rules of thumb and truly understand how projectiles behave.
Prerequisites: Basic physics and algebra. Calculus is used but not required to follow the concepts.

Introduction to Safety and Human Factor Description Course

In today's world, safety is a fundamental aspect of every organization, particularly in fields that involve complex operations and human interaction, such as maintenance and aviation. This course is designed to provide you with an understanding of the critical role that safety plays in your environment, as well as the human factors that can influence safety outcomes.

Throughout this course, you will explore various topics related to safety practices, compliance with relevant legislation, and the importance of understanding human behavior in the context of safety management. We will delve into how human factors can affect decision-making, communication, and overall safety performance. By connecting these concepts to real-life examples, including accident and incident reports, you will gain practical insights that are directly applicable to your work.

The training syllabus is structured to ensure that all essential subjects are covered comprehensively, allowing for adjustments based on the specific needs of your organization. This flexibility ensures that the training is relevant and tailored to the varying levels of experience among personnel. Moreover, we will emphasize practical applications over theoretical concepts, linking our discussions to existing guidelines such as the ICAO Human Factors Digests and Training Manual.

By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of the safety protocols that govern your field and the human factors that can influence safety outcomes. This knowledge will empower you to contribute to a safer working environment and enhance your organization’s safety culture.
